{"id":3330,"date":"2023-03-27T05:46:07","date_gmt":"2023-03-27T05:46:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/dg-newsletter2223.rid3450.org\/?p=3330"},"modified":"2023-03-27T05:46:14","modified_gmt":"2023-03-27T05:46:14","slug":"ri-president-march-message","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dg-newsletter2223.rid3450.org\/?p=3330","title":{"rendered":"RI President March Message"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wp-block-columns eplus-wrapper is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-8f761849 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex eplus-styles-uid-f2ff21\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column eplus-wrapper is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:33.33%\"><div class=\"wp-block-image is-style-blob-2\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized eplus-wrapper\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/dg-newsletter2223.rid3450.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/Jennifer-Jones-Official-Photo-edited.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1668\" width=\"363\" height=\"345\"><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center eplus-wrapper wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Jennifer Jones<br>2022-23 RI President<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column eplus-wrapper is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:66.66%\">\n<p class=\"eplus-wrapper wp-block-paragraph\">As we planned for this Rotary year, I could have never &#8220;imagined&#8221; the breadth of stories we would encounter nor the scope of the people we would meet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"eplus-wrapper wp-block-paragraph\">I find oxygen in sharing time with our members \u2014 hearing their truths and learning about their personal journeys and their deepest desires for goodness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"eplus-wrapper wp-block-paragraph\">And so it was that I encountered two very different men with very similar stories.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"eplus-wrapper wp-block-paragraph\">One-hundred-year-old Genshitsu Sen is a remarkable human being and a joyful soul. We greeted each other in Kyoto, during my trip to Japan in November, with a hug and an instant connection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"eplus-wrapper wp-block-paragraph\">Not only is Sen a former grand master of the Urasenke tea tradition but he is also an active member of the Rotary Club of Kyoto, where he has served as club president. He assisted in the charter of the Rotary Club of Kyoto-South. And he has also served as governor of District 2650 and held leadership roles in Rotary International and The Rotary Foundation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"eplus-wrapper wp-block-paragraph\">During that same week, I had the great pleasure to record a birthday video for a 100-year-old World War II naval hero who is an exemplary leader and who served two terms as governor of District 5810 in Texas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"eplus-wrapper wp-block-paragraph\">Both men are decorated World War II heroes in their respective countries and share unthinkable history.
