Project Description:<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

GG1633878 aimed to further strengthen the existing infrastructure of My Home kindergarten run by CICM Missionaries, teacher capability and provide lifeskills for parents whose children are enrolled in the kindergarten. The project had four key focus areas:<\/p>\n\n\n

  • Teacher training<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Adult sewing class<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n

    The kindergarten serves the underprivileged community in Erdenet city where income gap is high due to high-paid salaries in local mine. While installing drainage system and upgrading schoolyard enabling them to plant vegetables for their own need, project provided international-standard training methods for the teachers. Through the project parents received sewing classes and sewing machines \u2013 ensuring families would achieve sustainable income.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Project Description:<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    We installed a water purification system with water reservation container (volume 1000 liters) and carry containers (Reverse Osmosis System, 95% purified water, capacity 158 liter per hour) at the Maternal and Child Health National Center. The purified water is used for centralized sterilization department for sterilization surgical equipment, medical devices, pharmaceutical purpose and preparing infant food. Also, we distributed 34 different types of necessary medical supplies (hands free hand sanitizers with refills, portable toilet seats, shower aid for patients etc.) to improve hand hygiene and sanitation and some medical devices to support patient care (remote thermometer, Oxygen concentrator, fetal dopplers, portable EGG, vessel finders, patient monitors, patient bed etc.) to the hospital departments.
    With capacity building for healthcare workers and trainings for patients and caretakers as another main component of the project, a series of trainings have been provided to healthcare workers, patients, customers, and caretakers. Internally, a total of 1028 healthcare workers were trained. More than 1200 persons externally trained from neighboring universities, high schools, kindergartens and business entities on basics of the hygiene and sanitation including prevention of water borne infections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    • Educate school children in proper sanitation habits to reduce potential exposure to infectious diseases.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n

        The project was initiated at a time when Mongolia had no local transmission of COVID-19 cases. RCUB in discussion with the schools administration decided to proceed with the actual installation work before the school semester started (September 1).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        With support from the Rotary Foundation and RI District 3670, RC Namweon Central and RC Ulaanbaatar, we were able to install toilet facilities at six schools in remote parts of Ulaanbaatar city.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        The project made more sense to the beneficiaries especially at the times of COVID-19 pandemic where the needs for increased capacity of toilets and hand-washing facilities played a critical role in preventing coronavirus spread among school kids and teachers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        Since March 2021, schools are being used as testing and vaccination centres in Ulaanbaatar and across the country. Thus, the newly installed toilets and hand-washing facilities have been used by medical teams during the fight against the pandemic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        In October 2022, we have visited the schools and co-organized Hygiene training for kids in celebration of International Handwashing Day. This day is widely celebrated in Mongolia with support from UN agencies, local authorities and NGOs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
