Community Economic Development is one of The Rotary Foundation’s seven areas of focus.
Facing the fact that
Nearly 800 million people are living on less than $1.90 a day
795 million people — or 1 in 9 people in the world — do not have enough to eat
60% of the world’s hungry people are women and girls
70% of the world’s poorest people live in rural areas depend on agriculture and related activities for their livelihood
Rotary members are passionate about providing sustainable solutions to poverty. We and our Foundation have worked to strengthen local entrepreneurs and community leaders, particularly women, in impoverished communities.
In 2020 – 2021, 264 Global Grant projects totally amounting to US$17M have been carried out under “Community Economic Development”
Apart from providing training and access to well-paying jobs and financial management institutions, we also create opportunities to help individuals and communities thrive financially and socially. We train people to become resources for their communities, offering networking activities, advice on new business development, mathematics and financial management training.
In view of the above, more than 20 Clubs of District 3450 have been involved in Global Grant projects under this Area of Focus. Among them, 5 of them have played the role of Host Partners. To showcase their excellent work, the following pages summarize the Global Grant projects with District 3450 Clubs as Host Partners.
With a short video showing how we have done good in the world also attached ( https://youtu.be/5vzd0nypweY ) , it’s time for your Club to apply for the Global Grant and use your expertise to improve those communities in need in the world.
