Project Description:
Through the Community Needs Assessment, “Arsenic prevalence in Mongolia” study showed that the national average content of arsenic in drinking water was 0.014+0.003 mg/l (2005) and the highest content of arsenic was found in drinking water in desert and plain regions. Moreover, the result of the “Environmental contamination risk in health predictive assessment of UB city” also showed that lead content in drinking water of all districts of UB city is 1.3-32.2 times higher than WHO recommended level and 1.3-10.7 times higher than the threshold outlined in MNS. These trends have prompted us to study the hygiene and selected metals’ content in drinking water of the Gobi provinces.
The representatives of the Governer’s office of Sainshand city Mongolia, Rotary club of Taipei Orient from Taiwan and Rotary club of Ulaanbaatar Peace Avenue visited Sainshand to deliver water purifying tanks valued at USD29,000 to “Chandmani ilch”, a state owned LLC. The tank installation work on the Denj pump was completed by the “Chandmani ilch” company from Sep 20 to Oct 01, 2019. Upon installation, laboratory analysis conducted by the Inspection Department of Dornogobi province to monitor the water quality after purification, and filtered water has come in use for people since October. A small brick house has also been built by the Mayor’s Office to place the water purifying tanks.
With this project being specially important for improving the quality of drinking water in Sainshand soum, the training on tank introduction for citizens of bags 1, 2, 3, 6 was organized during October 9-11, 2019 at the Governor’s office in collaboration with the Health Department of the province, “Chandmani ilch” company and the administration office of Galba, Uush, Dolood protected area.
