Project Description:
As an immediate response to addressing the serious malnutrition condition of the children in the 3 leprosy villages, the project used part of the grant fund to import high nutritional food packs for these children. These high nutrient packs were chosen in accordance with the recommendation of the WHO.
As a longer-term solution, the project entailed building the necessary infrastructure to allow villagers access to clean water for drinking and irrigation. The villagers were also educated to grow vegetables and eat food with higher nutritional value.
After the completion of the project, more than 80% of the farm land in the villages were covered by the new irrigation system, totaling approximately 700mu. Around 72 households (with 260 villagers) and the village school and clinic were connected to new water taps.
