Objectives:

  • The primary objective is saving the lives of mothers and their babies.
  • As a follow-up to Phase III which has been completely embedded into Childborth Education within the Mongolian Maternal Health Education system, this project works with the Health Science University of Mongolia to provide specialised training which will also be adopted as part of the curriculum that these students are taught.
  • Provide essential Emergency Clinical Skills Training to over 100 health care providers at Hospital number One and University Hospitals in Darkhan and Sainshand.
  • Provision of grass roots consultation and evaluation to the previous health care professionals, as well as to provide Emergency Clinical Skills Training workshops at two regional centres combined with University Master training.
  • Provide electronic Fetal Monitors including cardiotocagraphy (CTG) chart interpretation.
  • Provide a higher skill level of training to Midwives, Doctors and Obstetricians at Hospital Number One in Ulaanbaatar, particularly focusing around the identified Emergency clinical skills deficiencies while incorporating best practice in skin-to skin care of the newborn and highlighting risks around premature delivery, birth and neonatal care.
  • Offer a higher level of maternal and infant health education to senior staff.

Project Description:

An Emergency Clinical Skills manual was drafted in English, translated into Mongolian, proofread and printed. “Train-the-Trainer” Classroom training for more than 160 Obstetricians, Gynaecologists, Doctor/Trainers, Nurses, Midwives and Clinicians has been successfully completed at Ulaanbaatar Maternity Hospital #1, GobiAltai Maternity Hospital and the Darkhan Maternity Hospital. All attendees have received an ECS Manual and in the case of Gobi-Altai, also a Childbirth Education Manual. A small amount of budget topped up by RCUB has been allocated to run a CBE course in Gobi-Altai in October 2018. Additionally identified were urgent requirements for Syringe Pumps, Infusion Pumps and Defibrillators on an urgency basis at all maternity units. – Page 2 of 20 – Equipment numbers have been accordingly adjusted to the budget
