By DS Frank Chan, 63rd District Conference Chair

The 63rd District Conference, which was held on May 20th-21st at the newly opened Regala Skycity hotel, was a resounding success. This year’s conference achieved the highest participation rate in the history of District 3450, with record-breaking registration from Macau and Mongolia. We were privileged to have Dr. Y.K. Pang, GBS, JP, the Chairman of the Hong Kong Tourism Board, as our guest of honor. Dr. Pang spoke about “Striding Forward in a Steady Recovery” and shared his insights on how the tourism industry can recuperate from the challenges of the pandemic. Dr. Pang’s motivating speech included a thrilling moment when he pledged to support the District’s efforts to host an International Rotary event in Hong Kong.

Our keynote speaker, Ir Eric Ma, the Vice President of The Hong Kong Institute of Engineers, delivered a speech on “Our Most Precious Natural Resource – Water”. His speech reminded attendees of the importance of water and the need to appreciate it. In addition to the keynote speeches, the conference featured numerous breakout sessions on a wide range of topics, including membership, peace, PPE, DEI, and VVE, providing Rotarians with the opportunity to learn from experts in their field.

This year’s conference incorporated AI art and distributed NFT badges for the first time, reflecting the theme of “Imagine Rotary” in unique and innovative ways. The RIP Personal Representative, TRF Trustee Vice Chair Larry Lunsford, made his first visit to Hong Kong and recognized the accomplishments of Presidents and Clubs. He also gave a State of Rotary Worldwide address, providing a vision of Rotary beyond the club level and inspiring greater involvement with Rotary.

The conference showcased the impact of our District in the community and its outreach efforts. The Hong Kong Outstanding Student Service Ambassadors Award was highlighted as a successful initiative that recognizes young leaders who have made a positive impact in their communities. The Virtual Vocational Exchange was also showcased as a successful program that connects Rotarians and professionals from around the world to share their expertise and learn from each other.

The Governor’s Banquet was one of the most memorable gatherings in recent years, filled with camaraderie and performances from our fellow Hong Kong, Macau, and Mongolia Rotarians. Celebrity Rotarians CP Roy Tang and Rtn Bill Ng gave an outstanding singing performance that was enjoyed by all.

We would like to take this opportunity to express our gratitude to all the participants, sponsors, and organizing committee members for making this conference a success. Your presence and enthusiasm made this conference truly remarkable. The conference provided us with the opportunity to converse with one another and explore the realm of possibilities, let us continue to imagine and create a better world through Rotary.
