In order to introduce the concept of sustainable green living to underprivileged children, we have built an urban farm on the open terrace at The Hub Hong Kong, an NGO which has been supporting needy families in Sham Shui Po since 2013.

A social enterprise Rooftop Republic was involved to help install the recycled planters with an auto-timer irrigation system. One of their local farmers came on the planting day to teach the children about the importance of environmental protection and the benefits of agriculture in cities. Together with Rotarian volunteers, they all had fun planting the first crop of the project, which included organic herbs and vegetables. In the coming months, they will learn to monitor the growth of the plants and eventually harvest them to bring home.

5G nbiot devices were also installed to monitor the moisture content of the planters and hopefully more children will learn about STEM through regular programming of the devices.
