Project Description:
Between 2016 and 2017, a total of 6,000 neonates born in 6 maternity hospitals in Ulaanbaatar, the capital of Mongolia, were screened for 2 types of diseases: Congenital Hypothyroidism (CH) and Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia (CAH). During the project, 3 neonates with CH and 2 neonates with CAH were diagnosed and treated early, respectively, and prevented from becoming disabled citizens in the future. Thus, it was found that the prevalence of these two diseases in Mongolia is 1.5-2 times higher than the average of the World:
Case | CH | CAH |
World | 1:4000 | 1:5000-16000 |
Mongolia | 1:2000 | 1:3000 |
Also, the doctors and nurses of the above-mentioned 6 maternity hospitals and 3 district health centers were trained on the newborn screening system.
